Pica Design Launches WCGH.org Website

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Pica Design is pleased to announce the new redesign of Waldo County General Hospital’s website at www.wcgh.org! Waldo County Healthcare, Inc. (WCHI) serves the healthcare needs of Waldo County residents through Waldo County General Hospital, five rural health centers, home health and hospice services, public health nursing, physicians’ offices and educational programs.

Waldo County General Hospital Home Page

Waldo County General Hospital (WCGH) is a not-for-profit community hospital committed to providing excellent care for patients and their families in a friendly, caring atmosphere in line with its mission to be the BEST. Services are provided as efficiently as possible with an eye on the future and in collaboration with other community-minded agencies. All services are provided regardless of ability to pay in accordance with the hospital’s financial assistance policy.

In early March, Pica Design was selected to redesign and redevelop the hospital’s new website working within the brand standards outlined by MaineHealth. The goal of the new website design was to remain accessible and intuitive to a broad-range audience while incorporating the newest tools and technologies to allow the hospital to enhance their existing communications and open new channels of communication. In addition, the new website needed to offer the ability to allow Hospital staff to manage every aspect of the website. Over the past six months, we have worked closely with the Hospital’s administrative staff to implement and test all of the site’s new functionality, including:

One of the bigger challenges for our team was to code the new website to work on every browser and keep the website as accessible as possible. Should a website break occur, the user has the ability to ‘Submit a Website Problem’ through a link located within the footer navigation.

In addition to developing the new website, Pica Design is providing hosting services as well as consulting on web and social media strategies to help the Hospital get the most out of its online presence. The HIP Women’s Forum

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

We recently created a new website for the Heidelberg International Professional Women’s Forum (HIPWF) based in Heidelberg, Germany. The HIP Women’s Forum was founded in 2007 with the vision of bringing together women of the Rhein Neckar region who share international backgrounds and professions in order to build a platform for professional development and a network to promote the individual and collective potential of each member. Women working for multinational companies abroad or in an international environment face many of the same challenges related to being a female professional in a foreign country. Through this forum, women can help one another to grow and achieve personal and professional success. To help them achieve this objective, the HIP Women’s Forum provides a full program of events for professional networking and leadership education throughout the year.

After approaching us in the fall of 2009, the folks at HIPWF decided to go with one of our Pre-Packaged Website solutions to bring their start-up organization online at an affordable price. With the new website, HIPWF now has the right tools and know-how to manage their website’s content virtually and internationally! If you’re interested in learning how Pica Design’s website development solutions can help your start-up business or organization succeed, shoot us an email at: info@picadesign.com

Maine Windjammer – Media Community

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Here at Pica we just love trying new things; especially working with cool code libraries and open APIs (Application Programming Interface). The folks from the Maine Windjammer Association came back to us (we originally designed their site in ’05) to incorporate a user-driven media community into their website. Well what does that mean? We used the YouTube API and Flickr API to build tools for users to submit their photos and videos to the website. Now users can add video of their journey on the ships to the Windjammer YouTube user playlist, and add their photos to the Windjammer Flickr group . Users can also now submit their photos to a yearly Windjammer photo contest and possibly win a free Windjammer cruise! Check out the ‘Image Gallery’ and ‘Video Gallery’ on the new site!
