Pica Design Accepts AIGA Challenge

Monday, May 11th, 2009

We’re excited about the letter O.

We’ve accepted the challenge to make a 3-foot ‘O’ that will appear in the word ‘SHOW’ at the 2009 AIGA BoNE Show in Boston at Massachusetts College of Art in June. (By the way, BoNE stands for ‘Best of New England’, and it is the name of a regional design competition hosted by the Boston Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, or AIGA). The 3-foot-high, 43-foot-long Exhibition marquee of dimensional letters will spell out, ‘AIGA B(oNE) SHOW’ and will feature found or re-purposed materials. Each letter will be on display for the duration of the exhibition and will be up for auction at the Opening Reception on June 11 to raise money for AIGA Boston.

We have some ideas on materials we would like to use for our environmentally friendly letter O…do you? If you have a suggestion on materials, please leave a comment here (keep in mind the final O must be 25 pounds max).

O, what fun.

AIGA B(oNE) SHOW
Opening Reception: Jun 11
Exhibition: June 12 – July 8
Location: Bakalar Gallery, 621 Huntington Ave., Boston

Apple Boxes

We are unabashed fans of Apple. We love their computers, and we love their design. It’s the best kind of inspiration; the kind we get to interact with every single day. As new people have joined the office, new computers have come on board as well. And you know we keep the packaging.

One day last week we were looking at the stack of Apple boxes, and realized that it tells the story of this whole company. And there, at the bottom, is the foundation of it all: the Power Mac G4 and Studio Display that Rob first worked on. It’s a workhorse that is still part of the office!

Saturday, June 17th, 2006

For the first time in its 10-year history, AIGA Boston’s BoNE (Best of New England) Design Show toured New England. Representing all six New England states, the bi-annual event recognized the best in successful visual communication in our region. The Portland installation of the BoNE Show was held at the Portland, Maine City Hall Rotunda for two weeks, June 5 — 16, with a closing reception on Thursday, June 15th. This was the first public event hosted by the newly formed Maine Chapter of the AIGA. For more information about the chapter, visit http://www.maine.aiga.org or http://www.boneshow.org
