Pica Design is pleased to announce the new redesign of Waldo County General Hospital’s website at www.wcgh.org! Waldo County Healthcare, Inc. (WCHI) serves the healthcare needs of Waldo County residents through Waldo County General Hospital, five rural health centers, home health and hospice services, public health nursing, physicians’ offices and educational programs.

Waldo County General Hospital (WCGH) is a not-for-profit community hospital committed to providing excellent care for patients and their families in a friendly, caring atmosphere in line with its mission to be the BEST. Services are provided as efficiently as possible with an eye on the future and in collaboration with other community-minded agencies. All services are provided regardless of ability to pay in accordance with the hospital’s financial assistance policy.

In early March, Pica Design was selected to redesign and redevelop the hospital’s new website working within the brand standards outlined by MaineHealth. The goal of the new website design was to remain accessible and intuitive to a broad-range audience while incorporating the newest tools and technologies to allow the hospital to enhance their existing communications and open new channels of communication. In addition, the new website needed to offer the ability to allow Hospital staff to manage every aspect of the website. Over the past six months, we have worked closely with the Hospital’s administrative staff to implement and test all of the site’s new functionality, including:

• a search-as-you-type feature to help people locate Doctor specialties that are difficult to spell
• built-in web accessibility tools for the handicapped (for example, the site can be navigated without a mouse)
• a find-a-doctor feature for specific medical needs
• news features & resources: subscribe to RSS news feeds, newsletters (InPulse & Journey to Health), and the news blog

One of the bigger challenges for our team was to code the new website to work on every browser and keep the website as accessible as possible. Should a website break occur, the user has the ability to ‘Submit a Website Problem’ through a link located within the footer navigation.

In addition to developing the new website, Pica Design is providing hosting services as well as consulting on web and social media strategies to help the Hospital get the most out of its online presence. Pica Design was asked to create New Packaging for a company in Blue HIll, Maine called Hydro-Photon. Hydro-Photon sells a product called the SteriPEN. Pica Design has been designing all of the SteriPEN collateral for the last 5 years. They recently released 3 new SteriPEN products; The SteriPEN Emergency, Mini, and Traveler. Peace Preserves, a Client of Pica Design, is a local business that was created to provide an array of unique fundraising items to nonprofit organizations and the retail market. Products were developed as a vehicle to express the simple message to “Spread Peace, Peace Works”. TxtResponsibly.org (the idea and the website) was created by the staff at Pica Design. Hearing news stories about the dangers of texting while driving, the statistics started to sink in: a distracted driver is 23 times more likely to cause a car accident than an undistracted driver, according to the recent VirginiaTech Transportation Institute Study. To put this into a more familiar context, drunk drivers are 7 times more likely to cause a car accident than sober drivers. The mission of the organization is to raise awareness of the dangers of texting while driving and to prevent harmful injury or death caused by the act of texting recklessly. Would you take the oath? We are thrilled to announce the launch of G•O Logic Homes Online: www.gologichomes.com

We began working with G•O Logic to design their logo. We also helped to define their competitors and potential market, built their website, and helped with site launch marketing.

Time for Belfast came to Pica Design to enhance their website. We re-organized the site, adding styles and structure, and posted new video clips for viewing. The mission of Time for Belfast is to put Belfast and its business community on the radar in Maine and beyond. The program is designed to confront strategic needs by giving students a voice and a leading role in a project that harnesses the converging medias of HD photography, Internet publication and TV airplay. To view their ‘spoof video’, click here. Time For Belfast’s website update project was spearheaded by our 2007-2008 intern, Zak Strassberg, under the direction of Web Designer Caitlin Holman.

We re-designed this beautiful Camden Inn’s website just before the 2008 summer tourism season. The site takes full advantage of color photography of the Inn’s gardens and features slideshows of each cottage’s amenities. From sweeping ocean views to gorgeous interior decor, this Inn has it all, and the new web site is enticing new visitors to explore the area.

A local telephone company serving Waldo, Penobscot and Kennebec Counties, UniTel came to Pica Design to re-design their website. We incorporated a new content management system that would meet their requirements for current and growing content as well as customer demand. UniTel staff can now update content and images in-house.
